Custom Engraved Glassware: Champagne, Wine, Beer & Shot Glasses

A wine glass, champagne flute, or even flask engraved with a personalized message can be the perfect gift idea. Custom etched wine or shot glasses can be great wedding party favors, and a beer or wine glass with a special message can be a unique and thoughtful bridal party, bridesmaid, groomsman, or even best man present. At Bottles in Providence, Rhode Island, we can engrave glass items, flasks, shakers, and even wine bottles. Also, as a liquor store, you will find a huge selection of whiskey, bourbon, and wine bottles that you can have engraved.

Although this rocks glass is etched with a custom monogram, we can also engrave your personal message or even a logo or image directly on the glass. For wine, whiskey, and liquor bottles, we recommend adding a color fill to the engraving, but with glassware, leaving it just etched gives a sophisticated frosted effect.

Bottles for the Cause: Vartan Gregorian Elementary School

Bottles Fine Wine is proud to be involved in supporting our local Providence community. Just the other week, we were honored to be a supporter of  Vartan Gregorian Elementary School‘s fundraising auction. With a tasty selection of wines from Bottles for the event’s attendees, Vartan raised enough funds to create a computer room in their library, and order new furniture, books, and periodicals, to the benefit of all children in the neighborhood.

Eric, Bottles General Manager, was happy to receive a very thoughtful thank-you note from Vartan Gregorian Elementary School!
Also, here is a view of the Bottles wine table at the event (below).

Over at O’Dwyer’s Creek in the heart of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc country, a team of rabbinical students were given a crash course on winemaking, and entrusted with their own parcel of land to create a great Sauvignon Blanc. The wine with its cool climate varietal’s distinctive fruit flavors was so rewarding for the students and winemaker that they plan to return every year!

Senorio Aldaz Tempranillo is a classic, full-bodied red wine from Spain that pairs well with braised chicken and olives. Enjoy the intense burgundy color, violet tones, lovely open fragrance, and aromas of ripe fruit.

Chateau La Cheze is a traditional French chateau producing this impressive Bordeaux that is dry and earthy, pairing well with a leg of lamb and rosemary.

Hai Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from Judean hills in Israel has a nice hints of cherry and oak to compliment roast beef and vegetables.

These are just a few examples of the diverse offerings in our Kosher wine section. Don’t forget something on the sweeter side for the haroset!

Spanish Wine Recommendations

We always enjoy featuring different wine regions on our in-store display, here at Bottles in Providence. Currently, we’re taking a good look at Spain, by showing some of the key regions of the country. Wines from Galicia, Rioja, and Catalonia were chosen to highlight the vast differences of styles, flavors and cultures you can find all over Spain. Let’s take a closer look at one of my favorite wines from Catalonia, Mercat Brut Nature.

The Mercat Brut Nature is a wonderful example of Cava, a Spanish sparkling wine, and comes from the Northeastern corner of Spain. This Cava is made using traditional methods by El Xamfra, a top producer of Cava in Catalonia. A great quality sparkling wine for a great price! 91 Points, The Wine Advocate.

In the Penedes region of Catalonia, the winery ages the Brut Nature twice as long as the laws of Cava insist. They make this wine with almost ‘zero dosage’, meaning that very little sugar is used for the secondary fermentation. Only a mere 1/2 gram of sugar per liter is added for the natural bubbles to occur, making this wine one of the dryest bubblies on the market. Aging also makes this Cava taste mature. The Brut Nature has beautiful fresh fruit flavors, an elegant mid palate, and a super-long, mineral laden finish.

Aside from the three regions we are highlighting, we are also devoting a whole section to Garnacha, Spain’s most widely planted grape variety with a white, pink and red Garnacha. I recommend the Clos Dalian White Garnacha, which is light, fun, and floral. This wine’s bold aromatics and clean mouthfeel make it perfect for springtime.

Cheers,
Nick

Italian Food & Wine Pairing: Emilia-Romagna & Pork Tenderloin

As part of our in-store wine display, we are featuring regions of Italy by pairing yummy recipes with matching wines. Keep reading to learn about the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy and some wines that pair with the Wood-Grilled Pork Tenderloin dish. A big thank-you to Edible Rhody for providing Italian recipes from local chefs from around Rhode Island.
wine map emilia romagna

EMILIA ROMAGNA
Emilia-Romagna’s location in Italy allows for an enormous diversity and abundance of cuisine.  From the coastal areas that are famous for its eels and clams, to the interior that is known for its wild game and pork based foods like Prosciutto di Parma and Mortadella from Bologna.  This pork recipe includes traditional ingredients from Emilia-Romagna like Crimini mushrooms, and aged Balsamic Vinegar from Modena.
WINE RECOMMENDATIONS

2011 Tre Monti Albana Secco White

If you prefer white with pork, this is a perfect match!  Albana is a full-bodied white with mouthfilling flavors of ripe peach and plum. It has a delicious savory bitter almond element on the finish that balances out the intense, luxurious fruit.  A great match with charred flavors with the pork and the savory, earthy flavors of the crimini mushrooms.
2011 Tre Monti Campo di Mezzo Sangiovese Superiore
The elegant and straightforward style of this Sangiovese pairs well with the rich flavors of the grilled pork and won’t overpower the flavor of the fine olive oil and fresh cherry tomatoes. Look for aromas of crisp dark fruits and red flowers with flavors of richly flavored dark cherries and baking spices.

*Tre Monti wines were also featured on Anthony Bourdain’s ‘No Reservations.’

WOOD-GRILLED PORK TENDERLOIN

over Shaved Mushroom Crudo with Aceto Balsamico di Modena
Chef/Owner Brian Kingsford, Bacaro, Providence
After the long cold winter, the freshness of the raw mushrooms with their earthiness is gently kissed by the oil of sun-drenched olives—a perfect marriage for the first charcoal fire of the season.
3 pounds fresh pork tenderloin
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
½ cup virgin olive oil (Sclafani, Bertolli, Filippo Berio, etc.)
Kosher salt and fresh-cracked black pepper to taste
1 pound Crimini mushrooms, cleaned and thinly sliced
Estate-grown olive oil (Capezzana, Regaleali, Olio Verde, etc.) as needed
Mediterranean sea salt (small grind) as needed
Pinch of chopped fresh rosemary
Aged balsamic vinegar (Aceto Balsamico di Modena) as needed
Cherry tomatoes, sliced (optional)
Place the pork in a single layer in a deep, nonreactive baking dish. Mix the lemon juice with the ½ cup olive oil and a pinch to ½ teaspoon of kosher salt. Pour the liquid over the pork and marinate for 2–3 hours.
Preheat a charcoal grill to medium-hot. Season the pork with kosher salt and pepper and place it on the grill, being cautious of flare-ups. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 140°, about 3–4 minutes per side. Transfer the pork to a rack suspended over a plate to collect drippings; cover loosely with foil and rest in a warm place for about 5 minutes. (For medium doneness, the internal temperature should reach 150° after resting.)
Meanwhile, drizzle the mushrooms with the estate-grown olive oil and a touch of sea salt. Slice the pork ¼ inch thick across the grain and fan the slices over the mushrooms. Pour the pork drippings over the meat and sprinkle on the rosemary and additional sea salt to taste. Drizzle with estate-grown olive oil and vinegar. Garnish with cherry tomatoes if desired. Serve with a salad of fresh organic mixed greens with a touch of lemon and olive oil.
Serves 4 to 6.

Bottles for the Cause: Red White & Blues 2

This past weekend, right here in Providence, Rhode Island, Bottles Fine Wine was honored to be a part of Red White & Blues 2, an event to benefit Trinity Repertory Company. Attendees enjoyed a tasting of wines from around the world, tasty food by local restaurants, and dancing to the The Silks, a popular local blues band. The casual evening at the Pell Chafee Performance Center was a great success, with proceeds benefiting one of the most respected regional theaters in the country. Red White & Blues 2 was co-chaired by Gil MacLean and his wife Michelle Collie, and sponsored by Bottles Fine Wine.

“Trinity Rep reinvents the ‘public square’ with dramatic art that stimulates, educates and engages our community in a continuing dialogue. In 1963, this professional theatre was born in Providence, Rhode Island. The rest is history: The Tony Award, 58 world premieres, education programs, films, and tours. Laughter, insight, magic, tears, and passion, for three generations of audiences.” www.trinityrep.com

“The Silks were formed in the summer of 2010, and have burst onto the country blues scene in New England with ferocity and enthusiasm. Front-man and songwriter Tyler-James Kelly has assembled musicians with resumes consisting of the Midnight Creeps (Jona Parmelee) and Electric Service (Matt Donnelly), blending it into a sound that is all their own. With compliments that vary from drawing comparisons to The Rolling Stones in style, and songwriting to a soundman shouting “that’s the most fun I’ve ever had!” after a show, The Silks have garnered a reputation as a band that everyone found themselves wanting to see overnight.” www.myspace.com/thesilksmusic

Red White & Blues 2 also featured several local restaurants, including Nicks on Broadway, Local 121 and The Roi. Guests enjoyed beautiful pastries, mini-burgers, and much more throughout the night.

“Test your Palate, Taste to Win” was a fun game where contestants blind-tasted 6 wines, and had to correctly guess which wine was which. Those with the most correct entered a drawing to win 2 nights at a luxury hotel on Martha’s Vineyard.

Bottles for the Cause: "How to Love Wine" with Eric Asimov

Recently, Bottles and the Providence community welcomed the Chief Wine Critic of the New York Times, Eric Asimov, for a reading of his newest book, “How to Love Wine, a Memoir and Manifesto.”

Jennifer from Books on the Square, Eric Taylor from Bottles, Eric Asimov, and Susanna from Reach Out and Read

Eager fans could mingle with Mr. Asimov at Books on the Square the hour before the book reading, and taste four wines selected by Eric Taylor of Bottles Fine Wine and Mr. Asimov.

These featured wines included Ravines Dry Riesling, Thorigny Vouvray Sec, De Forville Dolcetto D’Alba, and Perroud Cote de Brouilly, provided with the help of Wine Wizards, Inc. All four of these wines are available at Bottles.

20% of proceeds from book and wine sales from the evening went to benefit Reach Out and Read Rhode Island. RORRI prepares the state’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with pediatricians to prescribe books and encourage families to read together. The Reach Out and Read program is in 43 clinical sites and reaches almost 35,000 children in Rhode Island.

Eric Asimov signed books, chatted with fans, and gave a wonderful summary and selected reading from “How to Love Wine.”

“For many people, wine is an anxiety-inducing mystery as arcane as quantum physics. With so many varieties, it’s difficult to know what to choose. That puzzling uncertainty often prevents people from buying and ordering wine, depriving them of an exquisite, deeply satisfying experience,” argues New York Times wine critic Eric Asimov.

In “How to Love Wine,” he examines why the American wine culture produces such feelings of anxiety and suggests how readers can overcome fears and develop a sense of discovery and wonder as they explore the diversity and complexity of the world of wine.

In a direct, down-to-earth manner, Asimov discusses favorite vineyards, wine’s singular personalities, the “tyranny of tasting notes,” and current wine issues. Thought provoking and enjoyable, How to Love Wine will help diminish readers’ anxiety, bolster their confidence, and transform them into wine lovers.
