Bottles is a neighborhood store. We take special pride in supporting and sponsoring local events and organizations in the community. This past September, Bottles was honored to be asked to support the annual fundraiser for Shoulder to Shoulder, which took place right here in Providence, RI.
Shoulder to Shoulder (also known as Hombro a Hombro) is an organization dedicated to developing long-term, sustainable healthcare for the rural poor in Honduras. Their mission seeks to create an integrated healthcare system providing primary care physician access within an one hour walk, and specialty services within a hour drive for the people they serve. Based in Cincinnati, many of the Shoulder to Shoulder staff and Board members live in Rhode Island, including Dr. Emily Harrison, Shoulder to Shoulder’s executive director.
Bottles spent a beautiful evening outdoors, enjoying the first hints of fall and a wide selection of wines and craft beers from New Zealand with the guests.
While New Zealand is mainly known for their Sauvignon Blancs (and rightly so), the Marlborough and Central Otago regions of New Zealand boast some other world class wines.
As the guests were wowed by some elegant Pinot Noirs, they were also surprised by the range of reds and whites to be found. There were bone-dry Rieslings, a few mineral-laced Pinot Gris, and an unusual Cabernet, Merlot, and Malbec blend that had everyone talking. We even opened a few bottles of Cloudy Bay “Te Koko,” a rare and delicious barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc.
Overall, the fundraiser was a huge success, and Bottles was proud to help raise over $21k for such a worthy cause.
